Who is Rivian?
Based In California, the company painfully exudes the eco-earth theme while encouraging us to trek on the wild side in their pickup trucks; it may be a bit unfair, because take away the slick marketing, and you have a desirable lifestyle SUV.

The company, founded in 2009 by Robert Scaringe and similar to many start-ups, suffered from early setbacks and the inevitable Tesla Lawsuit to finally get the right vehicles in production and find a market that wants to buy them.
Although the company has its roots in Irvine, California, with a manufacturing plant in Normal, Illinois, by choice, the company has spread out across the USA and Canada with a network of offices and test labs creating a regional diversity that is incorporated into the design of the cars.

The Current Rivian Vehicles 2022
The basis of the Rivian SUVs is the ”Skateboard” platform chassis, developed by Hyundai and used by a wide selection of EV manufacturers.
The vehicles produced by Rivian are very capable off-roaders; the trucks have an electric motor on each of the four wheels, enabling each wheel to be controlled independently.
The impressive R1T 5 seater Pick-Up SUV has a powerful 835bhp (combined) and a weighty 3.5-tonne truck capable of 0-60 mph in 3 seconds.
One of the reasons that R1T is so heavy is its 128.9 kWh battery pack that powers the Quad motor vehicle up to a 400 miles EV range on a full charge.
The interior design is very stylish, the seats are comfortable, and the cabin materials are all sustainably sourced and practical for the type of vehicle that the R1T is.
For anyone who daily drives a pickup the R1T is way more than you will ever need; it’s also way better to drive than whatever truck you are using, making it one of the best on the market.
The other offering from Rivian is the R1S, which uses the same skateboard platform with similar performance figures, interior and technology; the difference is an extra row of seats and a closed cabin with a panoramic roof, making it a perfect family SUV.
Rivian in the UK
Rivian is yet to launch in the UK. They are working on a cheaper version of the cars with RWD only; the vehicles they offer are getting excellent reviews in the USA and Canada; the company has found its mojo, and top-end European SUV makers should be wary.
