Engines and performance for the Volvo S90
Along with an excellent petrol-electric hybrid that produces 402 hp, the Volvo S90 has two excellent diesel engines; the D4 produces 188 hp while the D5 offers an impressive 232 hp. The fuel economy is more than 60 mpg and the engines are coupled to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and there's a four-wheel-drive option too. There's also a very good petrol engine that was introduced in 2018, the T4, which produces 190 hp with economy of more than 40 mpg. The hybrid is capable of delivering up to 134 mpg and emissions for the S90 range from 49g/km to 155g/km.
Equipment and handling
Apart from the safety features for which Volvo is famous for, the S90 delivers a long list of equipment including a 9-inch touchscreen control system, automatic emergency braking that includes pedestrian, animal and cyclist detection. There's also satnav with real-time traffic information, LED headlights, dual zone climate control, leather upholstery and the option of adding alloy wheels up to 21 inches. Potential owners may also be interested in the firm's Pilot Assist semi-autonomous driving technology, which is highly recommended to make driving, particularly in heavy traffic, easier and more enjoyable. The cabin has been well designed, the seats are large and comfortable, and it's a comfortable place to spend time. There are plenty of luxurious touches and the two-zone climate control with air filter delivers a relaxed environment. Volvo have also added a sophisticated voice control system, internet access and various cloud-based apps that drivers can use. There's also a powered tailgate. Essentially, the Volvo S90 is offering what the carmaker does best; this is a comfortable and refined car to drive over long distances with safety features that are hard to beat.
