The power for what is a large SUV comes from turbocharged 3.0 litre diesel and petrol engines. In the Volkswagen Touareg, the petrol engine is a sound choice with six cylinders and it feels quiet and powerful and will complete the 0 to 62 mph sprint in just over six seconds. The entry-level model unit produces 231hp and is a responsive engine which is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission to deliver a smooth driving experience. In 2020, Volkswagen unveiled the Touareg R which is the new range topper and a plug-in hybrid offering 462hp of power, electric efficiency and impressive levels of performance.

There's a great view from the raised ride height and large windows and standard equipment includes a rear view camera and parking sensors. There's also LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, power folding mirrors and two-zone climate control. Safety kit includes automatic emergency braking, traffic sign recognition and driver attention monitoring. Essentially, the Volkswagen Touareg is a premium offering with lots of practical ideas in a well-equipped SUV - and it's one that delivers a good stance for comfortable driving with the suspension delivering a smooth and enjoyable drive Compared with many rivals, the Touareg is highly recommended.
