Engines and performance for the Volkswagen T-Roc
The Volkswagen T-Roc offers a choice of three petrol engines plus two diesel units, including a new 1.6 litre TDI engine. This diesel unit is coupled to a six-speed gearbox with an output of 115PS. The other diesel choice is the excellent 2.0 litre TDI producing 150PS and is available with the firm's 4Motion four-wheel drive system. The petrol engines include a 1.0 litre TSI unit delivering 115 PS and which performs well around town, a new 1.5litre Evo engine which helps fuel economy by shutting down a cylinder when it's not needed. This engine produces 150 PS and there's also a more powerful 2.0 litre TSI engine producing 190 PS to deliver a 0-62 mph time of 7.2 seconds and a top speed of 134 mph. The fuel economy is around 42 mpg - the diesel engines return around 65mpg.
Equipment and handling
There are five trim levels for the T-Roc which feature lots of equipment as standard including an 8-inch colour touchscreen and VW's Composition Media infotainment system which enables the pairing of two mobile devices and the system also has DAB radio. Safety kit includes Front Assist which utilises a radar to scan the area in front of the vehicle and will, in emergencies, automatically apply the brakes. There's also adaptive cruise control and a long list of personalisation options, including the choice of contrasting roof colours, interior door panels and colour dash pads. There's also the choice of satnav, larger alloy wheels and various sporty additions to the exterior. Essentially, as a compact crossover, the Volkswagen T-Roc is a well-designed and well-made family SUV with comfortable handling around town and it's a great car to drive over long distances too. There's a lot to recommend the T-Roc in a rapidly growing segment and the package sets new benchmarks and the vehicle appeals equally to customers of every age.
