Overview of the Skoda Kodiaq

Engines and performance for the Skoda Kodiaq

The Skoda Kodiaq is available with a choice of petrol or diesel engines, which include 1.5 litre and 2.0 litre petrol units and a very good 2.0 litre diesel unit producing 148 bhp - which is a sound choice for those covering lots of miles and should return 50 mpg. Most trims are mated to a very good seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and there's also a decent six-speed manual gearbox available. Some versions are also available with all-wheel-drive.

Equipment and handling

The Skoda Kodiaq is a spacious seven-seater SUV offering practicality and family-friendly credentials. The car has been well-designed and well engineered and it is an agile performer around town with the steering delivering good feedback. Out on the open road, the suspension delivers a stable stance and good grip on twisty country roads. The Kodiaq is up against some strong competition but there is a lot to recommend it as a good value offering. The boot is spacious, particularly when the rear seats are folded flat, and for those who need seven seats then it's a great choice. Standard equipment for the Skoda Kodiaq includes parking sensors, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, cruise control and LED running lights. The entry-level model is also available with seven seats as an option. Skoda introduced the SE Drive trim for 2020 which has larger alloy wheels, satnav, ambient interior lighting and a reversing camera. There's also an online subscription for infotainment. Other models feature a piano black interior trim, powered tailgate, heated front seats and keyless entry. There's also a 9.2-inch touchscreen featuring satnav and Wi-Fi. For those who want sportier performance, then the Kodiaq Sportline trim will meet your needs while the flagship offering delivers more safety equipment and leather upholstery. Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking along with the firm's 'Care Connect' system that will contact the emergency services if the system detects the car has been in a collision. It's also rated as very safe and has five stars for crash testing from Euro Ncap. Essentially, the Skoda Kodiaq offers an excellent family SUV with low running costs and a comfortable and rewarding driving experience. The interior has been well-designed and the equipment list makes it a family car worth considering.
