Overview of the Skoda Fabia

While the new Skoda Fabia shares its underpinnings with the VW Polo and also the Seat Ibiza, it still makes for a great small hatchback to lease and is a great choice. Indeed, it is probably the most practical and has a lower price tag than its rivals. It’s also one of the best equipped for the money.

Why choose a Skoda Fabia

One of the reasons why the Fabia has proved to be such a hugely popular supermini choice is down to the running costs, and this latest model offers fuel economy of 55 mpg for the manual box, and around 50 mpg for the automatic transmission. The 1.0-litre engine with the five-speed manual transmission has emissions of 124g/km and this will rise to 137g/km for the automatic gearbox. The Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) tax rate puts the Fabia in the 26%-29% bracket.

Drivers get a smooth turbocharged 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine producing 108 bhp to deliver a responsive drive around town. There’s a version delivering 94 bhp and the power is delivered using either a five-or six-speed manual transmission. There’s also a DSG automatic gearbox offered as an option on some models. For anybody interested in leasing the Fabia, there’s also a 1.0-litre petrol engine delivering 64 bhp or 79 bhp. At some point, there will be a 1.5-litre petrol engine offered with the Fabia which produces 148 bhp for startling performance. There are no plug-in or mild-hybrid or electric versions of the Fabia.

Skoda Fabia in a nutshell

Leasing a Skoda Fabia is an easy process with a long list of standard equipment including air-conditioning, DAB radio, Bluetooth connectivity and LED headlights for the entry-level model.

Drivers get a 6.5 infotainment display standard, while the better spec versions have a 9.2-inch central display with slick graphics. Skoda has retained some analogue gauges but there is the option of a digital instrument display. There’s a new dashboard and some models feature a fabric trim to give it a premium look.

The Fabia also gets a two-spoke steering wheel, and the latest model has more space and storage available because it is slightly wider, and some models also feature wireless smartphone charging. Other models feature a heated windscreen and steering wheel, dual-zone climate control and the option of a panoramic roof to create a bright and airy feel to the cabin. The better spec versions also offer more refinement in the cabin with height-adjustable front seats and a leather-trimmed steering wheel.

What to expect when you lease a Skoda Fabia

The range-topper is the SE L trim that offers ambient interior lighting, electric windows, front armrests and LED interior lights. The outgoing Fabia offered a comfortable ride and the latest version with new technology is an impressive creation. It’s a comfortable car to drive around town with the more powerful petrol engines making long journeys a breeze. There’s enough polish and refinement to help the Fabia stand out in its competitive segment.

This is also a practical car to lease with a boot size of 380 litres, that is much bigger than the previous version and matches the VW Golf. The rear seats fold down easily, and Skoda has added some of its clever features including an umbrella that is found in the front door, and there’s an ice scraper fitted to the fuel filler hatch. It should come as no surprise to learn that the Skoda Fabia has a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP since this is a supermini that is aimed at families. Safety equipment includes blind spot warning, lane keeping assist and some models will feature the firm’s ‘Travel Assistant’ system and there’s a self-parking option.

Essentially, if you want to lease an affordable supermini with lots of comfort, space and technology, then you’ll find that the Skoda Fabia is one of the best in its segment.
