There's a good choice of engines for the Seat Ateca, including a 1.0 litre petrol unit producing 113hp for the entry-level model. It's a sound performer and for those wanting better levels of performance, the 2.0 litre TDI delivers power and economy. The Ateca also comes with a 1.5 litre petrol unit producing 148hp and an excellent 2.0 litre TSI unit producing 187hp. There are also two other diesels available - a 1.6 litre TDI engine producing 113 bhp and another 2.0 litre unit producing 187hp. Most engines return around 45 mpg with the 1.6 litre diesel unit returning 55 mpg.

The Seat Ateca is competing in a very competitive segment and it offers a sound alternative to many rivals. For one thing, it's a very well equipped offering and handling is impressive; the suspension delivers good grip and there's little in the way of body roll on country roads - this is a fun SUV to drive. There's also the option of all-wheel drive but unless you're looking to go off-roading at any point, then this is not worth spending the money on. Other models feature dual zone climate control, rear parking sensors and cruise control. The Xcellence trim is worth considering if you like the prospect of larger alloy wheels and leather upholstery, along with wireless phone charging, automatic headlights, wipers and a rear view camera. Options include an impressive panoramic sunroof to create an airy and spacious cabin and there's ambient interior lighting. The Seat Ateca is also rated with five stars when crash tested by Euro Ncap to make it a safe family offering. The interior has been well-designed and there's good use of hard wearing materials so it should take some wear from families. The controls are easy-to-use and the driver's seating position is very comfortable with a good view of the road ahead. The bottom line is that the Seat Ateca offers an impressive SUV that is composed when driven at speed and it's cheap to run - the Ateca is a great all-round family offering that is worth shortlisting.
