Overview of the Seat Alhambra

Engines and performance for the Seat Alhambra

Engine choices for the Seat Alhambra include a 1.4 litre TSI petrol unit that returns 36 mpg. For those who need more power, there's an excellent 2.0 litre TDI unit producing 150 PS and returning 44 mpg. The petrol engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox while the diesel offers either the manual box or a smooth changing six-speed automatic transmission, though the fuel economy is reduced slightly in these versions.

Equipment and handling

For those that need the space, the Seat Alhambra is an excellent MPV offering and has room for seven people. The interior has been well designed, particularly with families in mind, and there's a fair use of hardwearing plastics to ensure the car is a long-lasting family carrier. The third row of seats are, unusually, suitable for adults and this row and the middle row are easy to move if necessary. It helps that there are sliding rear doors, which are a boon in tight parking spaces, with a boot size consisting of 267 litres - drop the rear seats and owners get the opportunity of creating a space of 2,297 litres. Out on the road, there's a good view from the driver's seat and it's an agile performer around town. It's also an excellent motorway cruiser and there's also a little in the way of body roll when cornering at speed and the engines deliver enough response to create a rewarding driving experience. This is also a safe family car - it's been given a five-star safety rating by Euro Ncap - and there is a lot of standard equipment too. Safety kit includes stability control, tyre pressure monitor, ABS and hill start assist. Owners also get satnav, parking sensors, Bluetooth connectivity and climate control. Other models feature folding door mirrors, automatic wipers and headlights, cruise control and privacy glass. Rear seat passengers also get to enjoy fold-down tables and there's a 230 volt socket too. The top model features a panoramic sunroof to create a spacious cabin along with a rear view camera and heated front seats. Essentially, the Seat Alhambra is a practical and well-equipped offering that is good to drive with low running costs - and while many families are moving into spacious SUV's, there's still a lot to recommend the Alhambra as a sound family vehicle as an alternative.
