There's just one engine choice for the Renault Twingo - a 1.0 litre petrol offering which returns 51 mpg. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and it's a good performer on busy city streets. Unusually, particularly for this segment, this is a Renault that has the engine placed in the rear to help create the space in the cabin.

Equipment and handling

The Renault Twingo is a stylish offering with a funky interior and some nice design ideas. And despite its size, there's plenty of space onboard and it is a practical offering with enough room for four adults. It helps too that the rear seats can be easily folded flat to create more room for cargo and it will accept a load of up to 2.3 metres which is quite impressive. There's a reasonable amount of equipment including air conditioning, LED running lights, Bluetooth and USB connectivity and, as with most city cars, there's a long list of personalisation options. Behind the wheel, the Renault Twingo delivers a comfortable driving experience and it's agile to drive around town with the engine performing well on long motorway cruises. It's also an easy car to manoeuvre with a tight turning circle and it's also a very easy car to park. The standard equipment includes a stability control system to help keep the tyres on the road along with a tyre pressure monitoring system, DAB radio and front electric windows. Essentially, the Renault Twingo delivers an interesting offering to the competitive city car segment and if you're looking for a small car with lots of personality and space, then it is certainly worth taking a closer look.
