View dealThe Porsche Taycan is Porsche's electric sports saloon and estate, and it's the car that proved an EV could feel like a proper sports car. It sits below the Panamera in character but well above almost everything else electric for the way it steers, stops and changes direction.
It suits a driver who wants performance and a real sense of occasion, and who can live with a boot that's modest for the car's 4.96 m length. Reviewers consistently rate it the best-driving four-door EV on sale, while noting rear space and luggage room are the compromises.
The choice is simple enough: saloon or estate, one 105 kWh electric powertrain with rear- or all-wheel drive, then a run of trims from the Taycan entry model up to the 1,020 bhp Turbo GT.

The Taycan is the second-generation car, on sale in this form since 2024, and it's Porsche's electric performance saloon and estate. Two or five seats depending on version, a boot of 326 to 446 litres, and a three-year, unlimited-mileage manufacturer warranty.
What road testers return to again and again is the low driving position and the precision of the steering, which give it a sports-car feel that heavier electric rivals rarely manage. The flip side, honestly, is weight: kerb weight runs from 2,170 kg for the lightest saloon, and no amount of clever suspension hides that entirely.
Air suspension is standard on every version, as are matrix LED headlights and a heat pump. Porsche also backs the battery for eight years or 100,000 miles, guaranteeing 70% of capacity.
Two shapes, same mechanical package. The saloon is the lower, sleeker four-door; the estate adds a longer roofline, a fifth door and more usable luggage space. Both measure about 4.96 m long on a 2.90 m wheelbase.
The Taycan Estate has five doors and four or five seats, with 405 to 446 litres behind the rear seats and up to 1,212 litres folded. Slightly taller, slightly heavier, far easier to load.
The Taycan Saloon is the original shape: four doors, two to five seats, and a boot of 326 to 407 litres with the rear seats up. It's the lightest version of the car and the purest to look at.
Because every Taycan arrives generously equipped, and a lease keeps you in the current car with its warranty intact for the whole term. Standard kit runs to built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless entry and start, a powered tailgate and dual-zone climate control.
Safety and assistance kit is standard across the range too: autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera. Air suspension, a heat pump, ambient lighting and power-folding mirrors are fitted to every version.
Servicing falls every 24 months or 20,000 miles, and there's a tyre repair kit rather than a spare. Insurance is group 50, which is worth a quote before you order rather than after. If you're new to EVs, our electric car guide covers charging and running costs.
There's only one, so the decision is really about how much power you want.
Every Taycan uses a 105 kWh battery (97 kWh usable) with an automatic gearbox, and 429 to 1,020 bhp depending on version. Rear- or all-wheel drive is available. Efficiency is quoted at 3.3 to 3.5 miles per kWh, and the best version rapid-charges from 10 to 80% in 18 minutes at 270 kW, with charging accepted up to 320 kW. A full AC charge at home takes 11 hours at 11 kW on the best version.
