View dealThe Polestar 5 is the brand's flagship: a low, wide, all-electric four-door saloon built to cover long distances quickly and quietly. It sits above the 2, 3 and 4 in Polestar's line-up, and it's the only one of them designed as a proper grand tourer rather than an SUV or crossover.
There's one body style, one powertrain family and two versions, so the decision is refreshingly simple. Every 5 has a 112 kWh battery, all-wheel drive and an automatic drive, with 738 to 872bhp depending on which version you pick.
Choose between the Launch Edition and the Performance Launch Edition. Everything below explains what separates them, and what the 5 is genuinely good at.

The 5 is a five-seat electric grand tourer, 5.09 metres long and just 1.42 to 1.43 metres tall, with a 3.05-metre wheelbase and a 365-litre boot. It comes with a three-year, 60,000-mile manufacturer warranty.
Reviewers consistently single out the result: unusually stiff, composed at speed and far more agile than a car weighing up to 2,503kg has any right to feel. Praise for the cabin materials and the low-slung driving position is near-universal too.
The criticisms are consistent as well. The 365-litre boot is modest for a car this long. Neither bothers everyone, but both are worth sitting in the car to test.
Because the standard specification is already high, so there's little pressure to chase options. Every 5 has adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, a 360-degree camera, heated front seats, an electrically adjustable driver's seat, a powered tailgate, keyless entry and start, wireless phone charging and four-zone climate control.
Safety and driver assistance kit runs to autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, active lane-change assist, traffic sign recognition, front and rear parking sensors and LED headlights. A heat pump is fitted as standard, which matters on winter range.
Practically, it seats five, folds down to 1,128 litres and can tow up to 1,800kg braked. Leasing also sidesteps the question nobody can answer yet about what a low-volume flagship EV will be worth in three years - that risk sits with the funder, not you.
There's only one: a fully electric, all-wheel-drive setup. What changes between versions is how much power it makes.
The battery is 112.0 kWh in total, 106.0 kWh of it usable, with official efficiency of 3.0 miles/kWh. It needs charging: the best version takes 22 minutes for 10-80% at 350 kW, or 11 hours for a full charge at 11 kW on a home or workplace supply. Power runs from 738 to 872bhp, with 0-62mph in 3.2 to 3.9 seconds and 155mph flat out.
| Electric | |

| Boot | 365 litres |
| Power | 738–872 bhp |
| Seats | 5 |
| Battery | 112 kWh |
| 0–62 mph | 3.2–3.9 s |

Two versions, and the split is power and sound rather than a long list of extra kit.
The entry version, with 738bhp, all-wheel drive, 20-inch "Aero" alloy wheels and cloth upholstery. It brings the Android Automotive OS infotainment, heated front seats, head-up display graphics, a rear-view camera and the 360-degree camera with 3D view.
The Launch Edition is currently available from £1,092.25 a month.
This one steps up to 872bhp and swaps to 21-inch "Performance" alloy wheels, again with cloth upholstery. Inside, it adds a MicroSuede headlining and the Bowers and Wilkins for Polestar audio system with active road noise cancellation.
Road testers are split on whether the extra power is worth having - several reckon the standard car rides slightly better. The Performance Launch Edition is currently available from £1,247.12 a month. Against the Launch Edition, that is currently £154.87/mo more expensive.
