The Peugeot 5008 is a cheap to run family car, particularly with the 1.5 litre diesel engine producing 131hp. This unit is mated to either a six-speed manual box or an eight-speed automatic transmission - and both are decent performers. There's also a 2.0 litre diesel engine available which delivers better performance at low revs. Of the petrol engines, the 1.2 litre PureTech unit producing 131hp is a smooth and punchy engine delivering great performance around town. There's also a 1.6 L petrol offering producing 180hp.

For anybody looking for a futuristic SUV with decent levels of performance, lots of equipment and a premium interior, then the Peugeot 5008 certainly needs to be on your shortlist. Despite the size, it's a comfortable car to drive and the suspension deals with rough roads and it's a pleasant place to spend time on long motorway journeys. The seven seats are fitted as standard though the rear seats - which are only really suitable for children - can be removed easily to create more space for large luggage items. There's an excellent 8-inch infotainment screen with smartphone connectivity as well as the firm's i-Cockpit digital instrument binnacle. Safety features include autonomous emergency braking, speed sign recognition and lane departure warning. There's also a driver attention warning system to monitor for concentration lapses. Other models come with cameras to monitor the blind spot and active lane keeping assistance. The GT trim also offers active cruise control which is great for use in heavy traffic. Standard kit for the 5008 includes climate control, alloy wheels, DAB radio and electric windows. The entry-level model also features automatic headlights and wipers and rear parking sensors. Other models come with front and rear parking sensors, satnav, a reversing camera and part-leather seats. The GT Line Premium offering delivers massaging seats, keyless entry and go and an impressive panoramic roof. The interior has been well-designed with a premium feel and quality materials being used throughout. The Peugeot 5008 is a sound choice for families with plenty of space on board and there's a good view of the road ahead from the driver's seat and the infotainment system is easy-to-use. Essentially, the Peugeot 5008 is an impressive and stylish SUV delivering good levels of performance and low running costs. The list of standard kit also helps to make it a sound choice, particularly for families.
