ENGINES AND PERFORMANCE FOR THE MERCEDES EQS

From launch, the Mercedes EQS car lease features a 107.8kWh battery producing 324 bhp and a range of 485 miles in the 450+ model.

The alternative is the 580 4Matic that offers 516 bhp from dual electric motors and sacrifices the longer range to deliver 420 miles because of the performance levels.

The battery can be recharged in 10.5 hours using an 11kW wallbox, but using an ultra-rapid charger, recharging the battery to 80% of its capacity will take 30 minutes.

Mercedes says that a 90kWh battery will be available at some point in the future and drivers will be looking at low running costs whichever battery they choose.
The EQS also has a very low Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) rate and is currently able to enter low-emission zones.

The 0 to 62 mph sprint time for the rear-wheel-drive EQS 450+ is 6.2 seconds, while the more powerful 580 4Matic will do this in 4.3 seconds. There's also an even more powerful version planned from Mercedes-AMG.

EQUIPMENT AND HANDLING FOR THE MERCEDES-BENZ EQS

First things first, if you are looking at the options list and wondering whether to tick the box for the 56-inch hyperpanel - which is fitted as standard in the 580 - then you most certainly should do.

This hyperpanel is one of the most incredible automotive creations ever, and when driving at night with the ambient lighting on, it's like steering a space cruiser. This is Mercedes taking the futuristic, minimalist design fight direct to Tesla.

The digital dashboard is home to smartphone connectivity, the driver assistance systems and seating configurations. While it appears to be an overwhelming creation, it is very simple to operate and the third screen in front passenger can operate independently so they can have their own Bluetooth input and media controls.

Mercedes says this is also the most aerodynamic of any production car and the battery range of more than 450 miles makes it hugely attractive as an executive vehicle.

Along with the air suspension that delivers a smooth and cosseted ride, everything is very quiet in the cabin. The build quality is superlative and there's plenty of space for adults. The boot size is a spacious 610 litres, and with the rear seats folded flat, this expands to 1,770 litres.

And despite the size, the turning circle is impressively tight thanks to the 10° of rear-wheel steering. This makes the EQS car lease a practical and stable vehicle to steer. The interior is one of the best of any current production car with quilted leather seats and premium materials.

This is a serene car to drive around town and a near-silent motorway cruiser with high comfort levels that impress. The power is delivered smoothly from the electric motors, and, like other EVs, it is very quick from a standing start. However, the car’s progress feels more natural when setting off.

This is a big car that doesn't feel big at all, the steering is responsive and it's easy to control. There's little body roll on winding roads and it is also a practical choice too.

Make no mistake, the Mercedes EQS car lease model is one of the best EVs currently available with excellent levels of performance, lots of equipment and comfort but it also delivers a great driving experience.
