Mercedes-Benz A Class Review, Specs & Performance

As a premium family hatchback, the Mercedes A-Class provides a stylish and real alternative to its rivals in the segment. There's also a lots of equipment and it's reasonably cheap to run too.

While the A-Class may be the smallest model in the Mercedes range, it does offer drivers an excellent experience.

Under the bonnet there's a wide range of diesel and petrol engines to choose from, all of them are frugal, from the excellent A180d which should return around 61 mpg. For those who like petrol units, the A180 should return 47 mpg. Handling of the A-Class is excellent especially those models with the Mercedes four-wheel-drive system, 4Matic.

However, the A-Class is geared to having high comfort levels and offering an enjoyable drive which means there is plenty of grip and it corners nicely too. By offering a comfortable experience, the car's interior is luxurious and well-designed. There's plenty of standard equipment including alloy wheels, Bluetooth connectivity, an excellent infotainment system, air con, as well as electric windows.

One reason that Mercedes has put a lot of effort into its smallest offering is that they are hoping it reaches out to a new tranche of car buyers looking for a step up the premium car ladder. There's no doubt that their A-Class offers a premium Mercedes experience and, in many ways, gives its rivals such as the Audi A3 and the BMW 1 Series a good run for their money.
