The Jaguar E-Pace is a well-designed and well-made SUV that is smart looking and a sound choice for families. The exterior is stylish and there's lots of technology onboard.

Engines and performance for the Jaguar E-Pace

There was a light refresh for the Jaguar E-Pace in late 2018 which saw the addition of an efficient turbocharged 2.0 litre Ingenium petrol engine. The 0 to 62 mph sprint time is 7.7 seconds with economy of around 35 mpg and emissions of 186g/km. The E-Pace also has three turbocharged diesel units available including an entry-level unit producing 148 bhp, as well as 178 bhp and 236 bhp options. Also, do not mistake the E-Pace's name for meaning it is electric since there's no battery or plug-in hybrid version available. All of the engines offer good performance and now come with a particulate filter. The engines are excellent around town and smooth operators on long motorway journeys.

Equipment and handling

The driving position for the Jaguar E-Pace is high up and gives the impression of being a much larger SUV; it helps that when the range was revamped, Jaguar introduced adaptive dynamics which help to improve the body control, response and ride. The system reacts to road surfaces and the driver's input and alters the system every 10 milliseconds to deliver greater control but essentially to reduce body roll so it is a better performer now on winding country roads. The car also has 'Smart Settings', the firm's self-learning technology. This means that the E-Pace will recognise an approaching driver and then adjust the climate, driving seat and infotainment system based on the normal preferences. The E-Pace is a quiet and comfortable car with lots of standard kit including parking sensors and the option of an all-round camera. The interior has been well-designed with premium materials and the 12.3-inch touchscreen dominates the console which is easy-to-use and home to an excellent satnav. There's also smartphone connectivity and plenty of space in the back seats for tall passengers. Essentially, the Jaguar E-Pace delivers a lot for the money and it's not just a pretty face - it's also one of the best handling SUV's in its class.
