The Honda E NY1 is Honda's five-seat electric hatchback, with a 68.8 kWh battery, 201 bhp and up to 256 miles of WLTP range. Two trims are offered, Elegance and Advance, and this page explains which suits which kind of driver.
The Honda E NY1 is a five-seat electric hatchback, 4.39 metres long, with a single 201 bhp front-wheel-drive powertrain and a WLTP range of up to 256 miles. It's Honda's fully electric family car, and the choice is refreshingly simple: one body, one powertrain, two trims.
It suits drivers who can charge at home or at work, cover predictable daily mileage and want a quiet, well-equipped car that doesn't demand any learning curve. Road testers consistently describe it as comfortable, roomy in the back and easy to live with, rather than exciting.
Your decision comes down to Elegance or Advance. Both use the same 68.8 kWh battery and 201 bhp motor, so it's a question of equipment and light, not performance.

The E NY1 is Honda's electric hatchback: five seats, five doors, a 344 to 361-litre boot depending on version, and a 3-year / 90,000-mile manufacturer warranty, with the battery covered for 5 years / 90,000 miles and guaranteed to retain 70% of its capacity.
Reviewers tend to land in the same place on it. The cabin is airy and genuinely spacious in the rear, and the car rides comfortably on smoother roads.
The criticisms are just as consistent: a 78 kW maximum rapid charging rate that trails newer rivals, and real-world range that falls some way short of the official 256 miles in cold weather. Honda has also deliberately softened the initial acceleration, so it doesn't lunge off the line the way many EVs do.
Because every E NY1 arrives generously equipped, and leasing keeps you inside the battery and warranty period. Standard across the range: adaptive cruise control, heated front seats, an electrically adjustable driver's seat, keyless entry and start, wireless phone charging and built-in navigation.
Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and DAB radio are standard too, along with dual-zone climate control, privacy glass, ambient lighting and power-folding, auto-dimming mirrors. On the safety side you get autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, automatic high beam, LED headlights and front and rear parking sensors with a rear-view camera.
Practically, it's a 4.39 m car with a 2.61 m wheelbase and an 11.6 m turning circle, so it parks easily enough. A tyre repair kit is supplied rather than a spare. If you're new to electric driving, our electric car guide covers the basics before you order.
There's only one, which makes this easy: a fully electric, automatic, front-wheel-drive setup shared by both trims. No engine, no gearbox choice, no petrol version. What varies between deals is trim, colour and contract terms, not mechanicals.
The 68.8 kWh battery gives a WLTP range of up to 256 miles, with 310 Nm of torque, 0-62 mph in 7.6 seconds and a 99 mph top speed. Rapid charging peaks at 78 kW, taking 10-80% in 45 minutes on the best version; an 11 kW home charger does 10-80% in six hours.
Official efficiency is 3.4 miles/kWh. In plain terms, this car rewards drivers who plug in overnight and do school runs, commutes and the occasional longer trip - not those living on motorway service stations. Our guide to charging an electric car explains what a home wallbox actually needs.

Two trims, Elegance and Advance, with identical power, battery and drivetrain. Elegance is already well equipped, so the question is whether the panoramic roof, upgraded audio and extra cameras of Advance matter to you.
Elegance brings LED headlights, a leather steering wheel, heated front seats, a rear-view camera and four front and four rear parking sensors. It sits on 18-inch "Black Cut" alloy wheels with artificial leather upholstery and air conditioning, and several reviewers reckon it's the version they'd pick.
The Elegance is currently available from £641.57 a month.
Advance adds a panoramic glass sunroof that opens, a heated steering wheel, Pioneer premium audio, a multi view 360-degree camera and four side sensors on top of the four front and four rear. It also gains a hands-free tailgate and self-steering parking, on the same 18-inch wheels and artificial leather trim.
The Advance is currently available from £669.89 a month. Against the Elegance, that is currently £28.32/mo more expensive.
If you're weighing up other compact electric hatchbacks, the GWM Ora 3 covers similar ground with a very different design approach. You can also browse the rest of the Honda lease range for other models.
