The Honda Civic is a five-door, five-seat family hatchback with a self-charging hybrid engine. If you want the space of a family car without plugging anything in, this is the Honda that does that job.
The choice is refreshingly small. One body style, one powertrain - a 2-litre hybrid with 181 bhp, an automatic gearbox and front-wheel drive - and three trims: Elegance, Sport and Advance.
It suits commuters, company drivers and families who cover a mix of town and motorway miles, and who would rather not think about charging cables. The current Civic is the 11th generation, on sale in this form since 2025.

The Civic is Honda's family hatchback, and it's one of the longest-running nameplates on the road. This generation is hybrid-only in the UK, seats five, and comes with a 3-year or 90,000-mile manufacturer warranty.
Reviewers consistently praise the way it drives and the smoothness of the hybrid system, which slips between petrol and electric power without the strained engine note people expect from a car with a single-speed automatic. Honda's reputation for dependability is a regular theme too.
The usual criticisms are road noise at motorway speed and rear headroom, which the low roofline eats into. Boot space is 409 to 415 litres with the rear seats up, depending on version, rising to between 1,187 and 1,220 litres with them folded.
Because the standard specification is unusually complete. Every Civic, whichever trim you pick, gets adaptive cruise control, heated front seats, keyless entry and start, wireless phone charging, built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and dual-zone climate control.
The driver-assistance kit is standard across the range as well: autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, automatic high beam, a rear-view camera and front and rear parking sensors. LED headlights, privacy glass, rain-sensing wipers and an electric parking brake are fitted to every version too.
Practically, it's a proper family car at 4.56 m long with a 2.73 m wheelbase, and it'll tow up to 750 kg braked. On a lease, that even standard specification matters: you're far less likely to need factory options to get the car you actually want.
There's only one, so the decision is already made for you: a self-charging hybrid. It never needs plugging in, it's automatic, and it drives the front wheels.
A 2-litre petrol engine works with electric motors and a 1.05 kWh battery, producing 181 bhp and 315 Nm. Official economy is 48.7 to 49.6 mpg with CO2 of 108 to 115 g/km, and 0-62 mph takes 7.8 to 8.1 seconds depending on version.
In everyday driving it smoothly blends petrol and electric power, then brings the engine in. You charge it by driving it, nothing else, which is why it suits drivers with no home charger. Top speed is 112 mph and the fuel tank holds 40 litres.

Three trims - Elegance, Sport and Advance - all with the same 181 bhp hybrid engine and front-wheel drive, so you're choosing wheels, seat materials and comfort kit rather than performance.
The entry trim, and far from sparse. It has 17-inch two-tone Diamond Cut alloy wheels, cloth upholstery, LED headlights, wireless Apple CarPlay, a genuine leather steering wheel and heated front seats. A detachable towbar is available as a factory option.
The Elegance is currently available from £403.70 a month.
Sport moves to 18-inch alloy wheels and part-leather upholstery - genuine leather front seats with synthetic rear seats - and adds a heated steering wheel and a 12-speaker BOSE premium audio system. The detachable towbar remains an option.
The Sport is currently available from £417.38 a month. Against the Elegance, that is currently £13.68/mo more expensive.
Advance adds a fixed panoramic glass roof, a four-way electrically adjustable passenger seat and an electrically adjustable driver's seat, on 18-inch Diamond Cut alloy wheels with artificial leather upholstery. It keeps the leather steering wheel and the BOSE system, and the towbar option.
The Advance is currently available from £471.37 a month. Against the Sport, that is currently £53.99/mo more expensive.
