Among the engine range is a 1.4 litre 16V petrol engine producing 95 hp and a turbocharged 1.4 litre T-Jet unit delivering 120 hp for a more responsive experience. For those who want better economy, there are two diesel engine choices with the 1.3 litre 16V Multijet unit producing 95 hp or a 1.6 litre diesel option producing 120 hp and economy of 60 mpg. The engines are mated to either a manual gearbox, or the firm's Dualogic automatic transmission.

The Fiat 500L has lots of space with three trims to choose from. There's also, like many small cars, a long list of options available to personalise the 500L - Fiat says it offers up to 1,500 internal choices. There are some nice styling features in the cabin and a multifunctional steering wheel and the view from the driver's seat is excellent, thanks to class-leading visibility and wrap-around glazing. The models with the optional panoramic sunroof help to create a bright and airy passenger compartment. The extra space for the Fiat 500L means there is a sizeable boot of 455 litres. The safety pack includes autonomous city braking and a system to monitor children sat in the rear seat. There are parking lights along with the option of a rear parking camera.
