Overview of the Citroen C4 Cactus

Engines and performance for the Citroen C4 Cactus

Of the engines, there is an excellent 1.2 litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine for the Citroen C4 Cactus that produces 110 bhp and delivers what most drivers will be looking for - especially with economy of around 61 mpg. The alternatives include the same engine producing 130 bhp and there's also a 1.6 litre diesel unit producing 100bhp which will return a more impressive fuel economy of 83 mpg. The engines are mated to either automatic on manual gearboxes.

Equipment and handling

The revamp of the Citroen C4 Cactus saw many of the interesting additions from the original model being removed or reduced, such as the side panel air bumps, but the interior was boosted so it's a comfortable place to spend time. Along with being a cheap car to run, it's also a nice compact SUV to drive around town and it is a good performer on long motorway journeys. Part of this is down to the suspension and the handling means it's an enjoyable car to drive. It's also a very quiet cabin, even at speed, and the raised ride height delivers a good view for drivers. There are a lot of body colours for potential drivers to choose from along with roof bars and alloy wheels. There is plenty of space in the cabin, thanks to the high roofline with the rear seats sitting three adults comfortably. The optional panoramic sunroof is a nice addition to create a more spacious cabin, but the boot is also a decent size to make it a practical choice as a family car. Another option worth considering is Citroen's 'grip control' which delivers improved traction on slippery surfaces and for those who need it, it's a sound investment - it even delivers some off-roading abilities too. There is a lot of equipment fitted as standard and since most owners tend to opt for the top trims, Citroen unveiled a new improved range-topper in 2019, the C4 Cactus Hatch. The ride is boosted with progressive hydraulic cushions as well as advanced comfort seats. There are also new black alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, automatic lights and automatic air conditioning. Essentially, the Citroen C4 Cactus offers an excellent family car and it's a spacious SUV with lots of practicality, but it's for the impressive comfort levels that really help it stand apart from rivals.
