There's no doubt that the Citroen C4 Cactus has bold styling to help it stand out from the crowd - it also has lots of equipment and is great to drive. This is no ordinary compact crossover.
There's a lot of fun to be had with the Cactus which offers decent levels of performance and economy. The most efficient engine is the 1.6 litre BlueHDi turbocharged unit which produces 99 bhp and is capable, says Citroen, of returning 91mpg and having CO2 emissions of 82g/km. There's also a less powerful diesel engine on offer and three very good petrol engines; they have three cylinders and lots of punch with the most powerful returning 60mpg.
While the Cactus has a striking look, there's plenty of space on board and the raised suspension leads to a comfortable ride. One of the firsts for the Cactus is the Airbump panels along the doors which will help protect it from dents and knocks.
Despite the high ride, the Cactus doesn’t drive like a crossover – it’s more car-like in its abilities - and the interior is well-designed and laid out. There's an effective touchscreen to help control infotainment, vehicle functions and heating. Standard equipment includes Bluetooth connectivity, climate control and DAB radio. It should be noted though that the Cactus is lighter than its rivals with the carmaker taking out anything that they thought was not essential. Despite this, there is still enough on board to attract buyers including a reversing camera, automated parking, six airbags, cruise control and a tyre pressure monitor.
Essentially, the Citroen C4 Cactus offers drivers an impressive compact crossover - though some may say it is actually more of a hatchback - with a lot of impressive equipment in a unique package. The steering is light and responsive and nimble around town to help make this a winning combination.
