Engines and performance for the BMW X4

The engine line-up for the BMW X4 includes a 2.0 litre four-cylinder turbocharged unit producing either 181 hp or 248 hp, while a 3.0 litre petrol engine delivers 355 hp. The diesel engines offer a refined experience with a 2.0 litre turbocharged unit producing either 188 hp or 228 hp with sprint times ranging from 6.8 seconds to eight seconds. The quickest diesel unit is the X4 M40d with the twin-turbocharged 3.0 litre unit producing 322 hp with torque of 680 Nm to deliver a sprint time of 4.9 seconds. The M Performance will do the sprint in less than five seconds and the impressive X4 M Competition, which was launched in 2019 with a 3.0 litre turbocharged unit, will do the same sprint in a blistering four seconds.

Equipment and handling

The second-generation BMW X4 made its appearance in 2018 with the carmaker describing their new model as a 'sports activity coupe'. The X4 has enhanced driving dynamics, mainly down to an improved light chassis and better grip and a sportier set up than the X3. The X4 delivers a comfortable ride, particularly in towns and on winding country roads where the grip and responsive engines deliver fun and thrills. The BMW X4's cabin is a well-designed and comfortable place to spend time with an impressive head-up display (on the options list) and all of the controls are within easy reach. Satnav is fitted as standard, as is smartphone connectivity, with soft leather upholstery and contrasting stitching giving the comfortable seats a modern and striking look. The ambient lighting delivers a nice mood and there is space onboard for adults, even with the sloping coupe roofline. The standard kit list also includes automatic transmission, LED headlamps and four-wheel drive. Essentially, the BMW X4 is an impressive offering or meet the need for those wanting a stylish SUV coupe with sporty performance and excellent equipment levels.
