The supercar levels of performance for the BMW M5 come from the impressive 4.4 litre twin-turbocharged engine. The unit delivers 600 hp with torque of 750 Nm to help propel the car from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.4 seconds. It will go on to a restricted top speed of 155 mph with fuel economy of around 27 mpg and emissions of 241g/km. The power is transferred effectively with the firm's eight-speed automatic transmission and if 155 mph isn't fast enough then there is a driver's package that will increase this to 190 mph.
Equipment and handling
With the impressive levels of performance, the 2018 revamp of the BMW M5 saw a practical and high performance car being made more comfortable - without losing any of its edge. The excellent grip is down to the four-wheel drive system and a variety of driving modes, plus the specially developed tyres. It's also possible to switch to rear wheel drive mode for the best feedback and performance when necessary. The M5 is great to drive around town, it's agile and assured, and on motorways it is a comfortable saloon delivering occupants safely over long journeys. There is also plenty of space on board, particularly for rear seat passengers and lots of equipment. There's also an option list, including carbon ceramic brakes. Most of the standard equipment is aimed towards delivering excellent driving dynamics, which can be easily reconfigured using the central touchscreen. Essentially, the BMW M5 is an ideal choice for those looking for a very fast executive saloon with sporty handling, but one that also has lots of comfort and equipment for the daily commute and occasional speed-filled thrills.
