The performance for the Audi RS3 comes from an excellent 2.5 litre turbocharged petrol engine with five cylinders delivering 395 bhp. The 0 to 62 mph sprint time is 3.9 seconds with fuel economy of 30 mpg and emissions of 194g/km.

Equipment and handling

There's no doubt that the Audi RS3 is an excellent and fast car to drive and it is available as either a fastback or saloon. There's also the firm's quattro four-wheel drive system to deliver the power effectively to the wheels and to maintain grip to deliver confidence when driving at speed. The body control when cornering is very good and the cabin is a quiet and comfortable place to spend time. The handling makes it a great car to drive around town and it is a practical choice too. The motorway cruising experience is relaxed with the steering delivering precision and good feedback and there's plenty of power for overtaking. The five-cylinder engine delivers a burbling soundtrack for drivers to enjoy. The interior design is a classic offering with lots of tactile and premium materials and there's lots of standard equipment too. Drivers get to enjoy a 7-inch touchscreen and a digital instrument display utilising a 12.3-inch screen. There's also satnav fitted as standard, smartphone connectivity and very comfortable leather bucket seats. The RS3 also features LED headlights, rear and front parking sensors, cruise control and a sports suspension. Safety kit includes electronic stability control, hill hold assist and predictive pedestrian protection. There are also painted brake callipers, an electronic differential lock as well as electronic brake force distribution. Options for the Audi RS3 include an uprated exhaust system, ceramic brakes and the top speed, which is electronically limited to 155mph being boosted to 174 mph. Essentially, the Audi RS3 is an easy to drive and practical family friendly offering which also happens to be very, very fast - there's a lot to recommend it as a sound everyday car.
