The Audi A6 Allroad has a choice of two diesel engines: both are 3.0 litre offerings producing either 228hp or 282hp. They are mated to an excellent eight-speed automatic gearbox and there is all-wheel-drive to deliver the power effectively to the wheels. Economy is around 37 mpg.

Equipment and handling

The Audi A6 Allroad was revamped in 2019 and is an all-new offering. This fourth generation of the Allroad is based on the excellent A6 Avant and has a striking design. One of the big advantages for the A6 Allroad is that it offers excellent off-road capabilities and is a sound alternative for those who do not want an SUV but would prefer a practical estate offering. The Allroad has an involving driving experience and impressive abilities when taken off-road - or when driven across slippery surfaces. The adaptive air suspension delivers a smooth ride and can be lowered or made higher depending on the ground clearance required. The Quattro all-wheel-drive offering delivers lots of grip so drivers can cross muddy fields and down rutted country lanes quite easily. Depending on the drive mode selected, the adaptive air suspension will set itself automatically depending on the mode and the car's speed. This means that when travelling at up to 22 mph, the body rises by 45 mm but when travelling on motorways at speeds above 74 mph, the ride height will be lowered by 15 mm to give better body control and sporty performance. Other features include hill descent control which is fitted as standard and there's also tilt angle assist so the car can deal more effectively when taken off-road. This system will prevent the car from tipping over and will calculate the tilt angle and transverse directions. Standard features include a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen and there's an all-digital operating system on board with an 8.6-inch display below the large screen to control various comfort functions including climate control. There are two packages for comfort and safety, featuring systems such as adaptive cruise assist, emergency assist and help when pulling out at crossroads. The A6 Allroad also features various pieces of kit to help protect it including underbody protection, flared wheel arches and there are specific roof rails mounted as well. The two turbocharged diesel engines also feature the firm's mild-hybrid technology to boost fuel economy and the engines also deliver lots of pulling power. In addition, the Audi A6 Allroad is able to coast at speeds above 15 mph with the engine being switched off - and then switched on when needed. The Allroad is a comfortable estate car to drive around town and it is an excellent motorway cruiser offering stable performance and it really does stand apart from the crowd when taken off-road and for most potential buyers wanting infrequent off-roading abilities, then the Audi A6 Allroad is an excellent choice.
