BYD Auto
BYD Auto is another “new” brand automaker from the East, introducing itself to the European market and bringing cutting-edge electric vehicles to challenge the established car brands in this new green world of Zero CO2.
Who is BYD Auto?
“Build Your Dreams” was founded in 1995 and listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange in 2002; BYD is a leading Chinese technology company diversifying in electronics, automotive technology, renewable energy, and rail transport.

BYD Overview
In June 2022, BYD Auto announced that it had sold 641,000 EVs in the first half of the year, overtaking Tesla to become the largest EV manufacturer in the world.
In another first, BYD Auto is the world’s first car manufacturer to stop producing fossil-fuelled vehicles in a total shift to EVs.
BYD technologies include the e-Platform 3.0 with integrated Blade Battery, an ultra-safe car battery with a range of 620 miles, software intelligent and compaction size. Recently BYD Auto has partnered with NVIDIA DRIVE™ to introduce the most advanced programmable automotive grade processor, an acknowledgement of future autonomous driving ambitions.

BYD Models
The BYD Automotive design centre is led by German designer Wolfgang Egger and a team of industry veterans from Audi, Ferrari, and Mercedes Benz; they were responsible for designing the E-Seed GT concept car would eventually become the BYD Han EV.
As well as the Han EV, BYD manufacture and export the entry-level EV the Dolphin and the Chazor, a 4-door saloon and the SUV Song Plus DM-I, both advanced plug-in hybrids and 4 other models predominantly available for the Caucasus, Middle East, and Asian markets; they have recently extended the availability of all eight models to South America.
BYD in the UK
The only automotive presence in the UK market to date is the partnership with Alexander Dennis with the supply of bus chassis.[3]
This is about to change with the introduction of the 5 -Star rated Euro NCAP Safety BYD Atto 3, a mid-size Crossover SUV using the e-Platform 3.0 and 60.48 kWh Blade Battery technology, delivering a 260-mile range. The Atto 3 will be sold in two trim levels Comfort and Design.
The entry-level Atto 3 Comfort has a high level of standard equipment, including 18” Alloy Wheels, a 12.8” Rotary Touchscreen, Adaptive Cruise Control, Parking Radar, and BYD Di-Link Internet.
BYD announced in 2022 that the distribution of Atto 3 will be handled in the UK by Pendragon PLC via their premium Statstone retail brand from early 2023. The Brand will also be available to lease through the regular alternative channels.
