Volvo XC60 in a nutshell

Interior

The Volvo XC60 is simply one of the best large SUVs available with a great reputation for safety and in this model, it has an excellent premium interior. It's competing along side better-known rivals but in recent years Volvo really has upped its game. This is particularly the case with the XC60 and it's based on the firm's XC90 – though has been made shorter.

Equipment

The D4 is the entry-level model and it delivers excellent economy and performance to make it sound choice. It's a practical car with a boot size of 505 litres and there is a lot of equipment to enjoy. The dashboard features a 9-inch infotainment screen for Bluetooth connectivity and DAB radio. It's also home to the easy-to-use satnav system. The XC60 also has keyless entry, a powered tailgate and 18-inch alloy wheels.

For those who like the R-Design, the sporty styling delivers various upgrades to the interior and exterior, including dual exhaust pipes and black interior headlining. Behind the wheel, the driver's view is excellent and the car has a solid stance with little body lean when cornering. It's a very comfortable vehicle to drive on long journeys with cosseting Nappa leather seats in the Description model, the range topper, and ambient lighting offering a superb driving experience. And since Volvo is well-known for the levels of safety equipment in its cars, there's a long list in the XC60 to enjoy.

Alongside the autonomous emergency braking system, there's a new feature called 'steering assist' which will help the XC60 avoid any obstacles it detects in the road ahead. There's also the 'oncoming lane mitigation' system to avoid a head-on collision and other potential accidents. The carmaker's 'Pilot Assist' is an option is worth considering to bring semi-autonomous capabilities at speeds of up to 80 mph. Essentially, the Volvo XC60 offers a well-designed and very comfortable family SUV with lots of equipment and high safety standards to make it a serious contender in a very competitive market.
