The Vauxhall Meriva is a small MPV that offers practicality and style. There's a lot to like about this car especially the innovative rear doors which are a boon for families.
The engine line-up for the Meriva is impressive since Vauxhall makes a wide range and all of them are very good. The newest edition is the excellent 1.4i petrol version which offers a refined and smooth performance. There’s also a new 1.6litre CDTi 'Whisper' diesel. Opt for one of the CDTi ecoFlex diesel engines and fuel economy will be around 69mpg with CO2 emissions of 109g/km. The engines and performance around town are excellent and it's also a decent performer on motorways.
The Meriva is a clever and small MPV that has a lot to offer in terms of practicality and style. Indeed, it's the only car in the segment with a 'FlexDoor' set-up which makes getting in and out of the rear seats much easier (the doors are rear-hinged so they open the opposite way to normal cars). The Meriva is up against some very stiff competition and this second edition is much better than the model that precedes it and it offers a sound choice for those who a small MPV with abilities and space for four people.
However, one of the most impressive aspects to driving the Meriva is the handling; there's real gripping power and at times the car has a genuine sports car feel about it. The steering is light and true with lots of feedback. Meriva has space and lots of equipment though the entry levels are a bit sparse but other models include air con, electric park brake, cruise control and all have the firm's FlexSpace seating arrangement so the seats can be reconfigured easily. The cabin is well-designed and has a premium feel thanks to the quality of the components and finish with the rear-hinged doors proving a boon should owners have to load youngsters or babies into the car.
Essentially, the Vauxhall Meriva is a small people carrier with the Corsa's underpinnings and it is packed with practical ideas and feels solid and well built.
