The Vauxhall Cascada is an excellent convertible with impressive performance and which is pitched against some stiff competition. However, drivers will find a soft top with plenty of surprises and a comfortable and refined drive.
The Vauxhall Cascada is a sure-footed handler with engines that will surprise with their responsiveness and performance. Among them is a 1.4 litre turbocharged petrol engine which will return around 45mpg on the combined cycle and has CO2 emissions of 148g/km. There's also a 2.0 litre diesel engine in the Cascada line-up which should return around 54 mpg and has emissions of 138g/km. Vauxhall have also added a 1.6 litre petrol engine that is an all-new design and which will return around 40 mpg.
The Cascada has an unusual styling; it looks like a cross between an Astra and the firm's Insignia, and it has been designed to take on some very well-known rivals – and it manages to make a decent attempt at doing so.
The Cascada is a four-seater soft top with an amazing line-up of engines to help create a stylish and practical convertible. The canvas roof can be chosen from a choice of three colours to match a choice of 10 colours for the bodywork and the roof can be put in place, or lowered, in 17 seconds at speeds up to 30mph. When the roof is up, there is still plenty of space on board particularly in the rear seats which makes the Cascada a genuine four seat convertible. It should be noted too that the roof has been fleece-lined to help making it a warm car in the winter.
The boot measures 380litres though with the roof retracted there is a shelf to be put in place which takes up 100litres of that space. However, that does mean that when the roof is folded down it will not damage any luggage or shopping in the boot! The interior of the Cascada is well-designed and well-made, it looks exactly like the Astra, and there's a decent list of standard kit including cruise control, alloy wheels, air con and rear parking sensors.
Essentially, the Vauxhall Cascada is a surprising convertible that offers impressive handling and a very comfortable ride.
