Compact crossover offers style and economy

There's a lot to like about the new Suzuki Ignis which offers great handling and lots of comfort in the compact crossover segment. This is a great supermini with a long list of personalisation options.

ENGINES AND PERFORMANCE FOR THE SUZUKI IGNIS

There's only one choice of engine, a 1.2 litre Dualjet unit producing 90 bhp with emissions of 104g/km. However, the four cylinders will help the car deliver economy of more than 61 mpg. Suzuki is also offering its Ignis with a hybrid version for those who want to boost their green credentials. Indeed, the smart hybrid vehicle offers the latest technology with emissions of 97g/km and fuel consumption of around 66 mpg.

EQUIPMENT AND HANDLING

With a choice of 11 colours, there's a full list of personalisation options for the interior trim and the exterior design. Drivers will also enjoy air-conditioning, Bluetooth connectivity, DAB radio and six airbags. Other models have satnav, sliding rear seats and a rear view camera. The Suzuki Ignis SZ-T features a few additions to the exterior including roof rails, side mouldings, wheel arch extensions as well as 16 inch alloy wheels to help it stand out from the crowd. There's also the option of four-wheel-drive in the SZ5 which also has automatic air conditioning, cruise control and dual camera brake support - basically two cameras scan for objects ahead and will take action to avoid an impact.

While the Ignis just 3,700 mm long, the interior has been well designed to be a spacious and comfortable place to spend time. As a supermini, it's a great choice for those who will spend most their time driving around town, And it is also a pleasant place to be when travelling on motorways with the engine proving to be a sound performer even when the car is fully loaded. There's also plenty of luggage space with a boot measuring 267 litres but it drops to 204 litres for the all-grip models which utilise a rear differential for the four-wheel-drive. For those worried about the small dimensions, there's the firm's ‘total effective control’ technology which provides a high level of collision safety with a rigid cabin structure.

As a supermini, it has striking good looks and it's designed to be a great car around town and in the countryside with the 4x4 system proving to be a good performer. The extra equipment for the money makes the Ignis a great choice in a competitive segment.

Essentially, the Suzuki Ignis offers drivers a supermini with lots of space on board for occupants and it's striking and good-looking package delivers a comfortable and enjoyable vehicle to drive.
