The XV is one of the better designed and more able crossover vehicles available today which has excellent handling and lots of practicality too. Designed to take on the might of the Nissan Qashqai, owners of the XV will find a car that has rugged design at its heart; the exterior makes it stand out from the crowd and the interior is well-designed and well-made to take a lot of punishment. There's choice of two engines: a 2.0 litre petrol and a 2.0 litre diesel (a quite impressive 1.6i litre petrol engine has been dropped). The diesel engine should return around 50mpg and have CO2 emissions of 146g/km; one of the best economies for a car in this class.
Handling is superb thanks to the all-wheel drive which means that the car grips Tarmac with confidence and the XV is also an able off-road performer too. Subaru is a renowned maker of SUVs such as the Outback and Forester so this vehicle should take a lot of punishment too. It’s certainly has a solid build. To help the driver keep control there’s also a decent range of safety kit on board including traction control, ABS and seven airbags. Subaru have also added, in case of a serious accident, a collapsible steering column and retractable pedals.
Subaru generally adds lots of kit as standard to its cars and that's also the case with the XV and it comes with leather seats, Bluetooth connectivity and dual zone air con. It goes without saying that the XV scored full marks in the Euro NCAP crash tests. The boot is spacious at 410litres and with the rear seats folded flat this will expand to a very useful 1,270litres. Indeed, there's lots of space for everyone on board, particularly in the rear seats for tall adults. A revamp of the XV offering for 2014 saw improvements to the car’s handling, safety and refinement - and all for the better.
