The SsangYong Turismo is an MPV with lots of space and equipment. Indeed, as a people carrier it offers value for money with a practical interior and decent performance.
Under the bonnet of the Turismo is a 2.2 litre diesel engine which produces 153bhp and it's coupled to a six speed manual gearbox or a five-speed automatic. The engine is a quiet, and should return 39 mpg while having emissions of 199g/km for the manual gearbox - these figures drop slightly for the automatic transmission.
The components inside the Turismo’s cabin are well-designed and made from robust materials which is a surprise considering the price of the vehicle itself. With the rear seats folded flat, the boot will expand from a useful 875litres to a huge 3,100litres. Standard kit includes Bluetooth connectivity, electric door mirrors, keyless entry system and a height adjustable steering wheel. Other models come with rear parking sensors, though they are an option at the lower end of the range. Safety equipment includes electronic traction and stability control, anti-lock brakes and airbags.
Handling for such a big car is quite impressive; the Turismo is nice to drive around town and out on the open road the engine is responsive and powerful. The overall impression is of a decent family car that is comfortable to drive over long distances. It handles well in two-wheel drive format and the four-wheel-drive option provides plenty of grip, particularly in wet conditions.
The Turismo offers great value for money in a competitive sector with a vehicle that is practical and spacious. The new model is an MPV that has been heavily updated from its previous incarnation and now offers one of the biggest load spaces in its class. In addition, there's also a lot of kit fitted as standard to help attract buyers.
