Overview of the Seat Ibiza

Engines and performance for the Seat Ibiza

The entry-level model of the Seat Ibiza includes two 1.0 litre petrol engines producing 80 PS or 95 PS, which are good performers around town. There's also a 1.6 litre TDI diesel unit producing 95 PS, which delivers economy and is a very good long-distance cruiser. The top spec models offer a turbocharged version of the 1.0 litre petrol unit with either 95 PS or 115 PS and it is mated to a manual gearbox or a smooth changing automatic transmission. There's also a 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol unit used for the FR trim and it delivers a sporty performance to deliver a 0 to 62 mph time of less than eight seconds. The 1.0 litre petrol engines return between 48 mpg and 52 mpg, while the diesel returns 60 mpg.

Equipment and handling

The Seat Ibiza is an award-winning offering in the supermini sector and there's a lot to like about it. It's a stylish-looking car with plenty of space and it's also very quiet when driven at speed. The cabin has been well designed and there are some hard-wearing plastics dotted around the cabin to make this a practical and sound choice for families. However, it really is a standout performer when being driven with an agile performance in town and the suspension deals with country roads really well. It's also a comfortable motorway cruiser with the new model being slightly wider than the previous version to deliver the spacious cabin. Seat also added the firm's digital cockpit when the car was last revamped, which is easy-to-use and stylish. The build quality is good and there's a decent list of standard kit including air conditioning, Bluetooth connectivity, LED running lights and alloy wheels. There's also a 6.5-inch colour touchscreen and the metallic paint option costs nothing. Other models come with an 8-inch touchscreen, satnav, sports seats, driving mode selector and adaptive cruise control. The flagship models also feature a rear-view camera and all-round parking sensors. This is a very safe supermini too - it's rated with five stars by Euro Ncap for crash testing and there's no doubt that this is an excellent family car. Indeed, the Seat Ibiza is not only comfortable and quiet, it's also a competent car that delivers on just about every level and it makes for a better family motoring choice than some of its rivals.
