Overview of the Renault Zoe

Motors and performance for the Renault Zoe

The Renault Zoe uses a 52 kWh battery that should - between charges - return around 245 miles. There's a choice of two motors delivering either 106hp or 134hp and both offer good performance levels. Using the 50 kW charger, owners can charge the battery up to 80% of its capacity in just over an hour. That's a big bonus for many people, though the standard 7 kW charge will take eight hours. The big attraction is that charging is very cheap with lower running costs than for a petrol-powered car.

Equipment and handling

With growing numbers of us looking to invest in an electric car, the Renault Zoe has been around for a few years and has established itself as a perky performer. The power is delivered from a standing start and it's an agile performer around town. On long motorway journeys, cruise control helps with delivering a rewarding drive. The Zoe uses large windows that help the cabin to feel more spacious than the dimensions would lead you to believe. This is a very smooth and quiet car to drive, so it's a more relaxing driving experience. A revamp in 2019 saw the Zoe receive an improved infotainment system, styling changes and alterations to the line-up. One of the big attractions is that it's a lot cheaper than most rivals with better levels of performance. Entry level equipment includes air conditioning, LED headlights, cruise control and a 7-inch touchscreen with smartphone connectivity. Renault also offers a free wall box charger. Other models come with wireless phone charging, climate control, alloy wheels and parking sensors. The range topper is the GT Line which has a 9.3-inch touchscreen and different upholstery. The safety kit includes an electronic stability control system and hill start assist. Essentially, the Renault Zoe offers low running costs in a fun to drive and comfortable offering; the larger motor will probably be the best option for all-round performance and it is an overall impressive package.
