Overview of the Porsche Panamera

Engines and performance for the Porsche Panamera

The Porsche Panamera 4 has a 3.0 litre turbocharged V6 petrol unit producing 330 HP under the bonnet. The fuel economy is around 30 mpg and the 0 to 62 mph sprint time is 5.5 seconds. Opt for the Panamera 4S and there's a 2.9 litre V6 turbocharged engine that produces 440 HP and will do the same sprint in 4.2 seconds. It has a similar fuel economy as well. There's also a Panamera GTS available with a turbocharged 4.0 litre V8 petrol unit producing 470 HP but it is only slightly quicker than the 4S with economy of around 25 mpg. There's also a Panamera 4 e-Hybrid available offering economy of 80 mpg and an all-electric range of 27 miles. It's also a quick performer with its sprint time of 4.6 seconds in the Sport Chrono Package.

Equipment and handling

The Porsche Panamera is a practical choice for those wanting a spacious cabin and roomy back seats. It's ideal for everyday use with powerful engines delivering great fun, particularly when motorway cruising and it's the nippy car to drive around town. On winding country roads, the Panamera really does grip to deliver one of the best handling cars of its size. Porsche has created a driver-focused car with an excellent chassis and some really nice design touches. There's also no option for a diesel engine and no manual gearbox either - though the eight-speed double clutch transmission is an excellent performer with smooth changing. There is also a driver assistance system called InnoDrive which utilises the satnav data to help predict road conditions for the next two miles and then optimising the engine, braking and the gearbox to deliver the best fuel economy and performance. There is an excellent multimedia system and for those who want better ride quality, there is the option of an air suspension package. While there is a long list of equipment, the options list includes night vision, lane departure warning as well as adaptive cruise control - but these can be quite expensive additions. Essentially, the Porsche Panamera is a saloon that is a family-friendly choice but it's one that acts and drives like a sports car with a luxurious cabin. There is plenty of space for four people, plus their luggage, in what is a hard to beat offering and it is certainly worth shortlisting.
