Overview of the Porsche Cayenne

Engines and performance for the Porsche Cayenne

The Porsche Cayenne has an excellent 3.0 litre V6 petrol engine under the bonnet and for those who want better levels of performance, there's a turbocharged 4.0 litre V8 option available. There's also a 2.9 litre choice and Porsche have also added a plug-in hybrid to the three petrol choices. The V6 produces 340 HP and has a sprint time of 5.9 seconds to reach 62 mph. Its top speed is a useful 152 mph. The hybrid uses the 3.0 litre engine and adds an electric motor to deliver power of 462 HP and an impressive 710Nm of torque. Its sprint time is five seconds with a top speed of 157 mph, which are decent figures for an eco-friendly SUV. Each model has an eight-speed automatic gearbox with smooth switching, particularly in lower revs.

Equipment and handling

The Porsche Cayenne was revamped in 2019 and there's a particularly good coupe version available as well. The hybrid version is certainly worth shortlisting and has an all-electric range of 27 miles to enjoy in a civilised and refined vehicle. The switch between electric and petrol is seamless and the 3.0 litre wakes up to deliver the extra power when needed. As an eco-option, the Cayenne delivers very strong performance and is an excellent choice to drive around town. The Porsche Cayenne is also a comfortable motorway cruiser and the 4.0 litre engine delivers the necessary levels of performance and is probably the best choice for those who are looking for extra zip. On winding country roads, this a big Porsche that delivers a capable and assured handling experience and while there are some off-road capabilities, in reality most owners will not be doing that. The car is excellent when cornering with rear wheel steering and active antiroll delivering the confidence when driving at speed. As should be expected, the Cayenne comes with lots of standard safety kit and driver assistance systems to help make this a solid and safe family car to drive. Among the features is an active bonnet that will pop up in a crash, automatic emergency braking, traction and stability control, parking sensors and cruise control. Options include traffic sign recognition, a reversing camera and night vision display. Essentially, the Porsche Cayenne is the choice for those who love driving with a responsive and enjoyable car and among its rivals, it is head and shoulders above their performance levels and even with the option of the air suspension, the SUV feels planted at all times to make it an all-round great performer.
