Overview of the Polestar 1

The Polestar 1 uses a 2.0-litre petrol engine with two electric motors on the rear axle. The power produced is a combined 601bhp so drivers can sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just four seconds. This level of performance is down to supercharger and a turbocharger to ensure that the four-cylinder engine delivers every piece of power.

Despite this level of performance, the Polestar 1 will return fuel economy of 403mpg with emissions of just 15g/km - those are official WLTP figures, by the way. The all-electric only range is 78 miles - which should meet most drivers needs for their daily commute. The fast charge time is just 40 minutes.

Polestar 1 in a nutshell

The Polestar 1 is an incredible petrol-electric coupe that offers impressive performance in a stunning design. The powertrain is very clever, and as a two-door coupe, there's very little to match it as a contract hire option.

Polestar 1 Handling

Behind the wheel, the Polestar 1 feels agile and potent with so much power at the driver's fingertips. It also feels secure with a strong grip on the road with comfortable seats to make this an enjoyable ride.

Since Polestar has been spun out from Volvo, the interior looks familiar to other Volvo cars with some good design ideas to enjoy. The boot size is 125-litres, and as a 2+2 coupe there is limited space in the rear seats, so they are only suitable for children.

These are niggles, however, because the car's road presence is not in doubt, and if you want a swift car that will impress on track days or around town, then the Polestar 1 should be on your shortlist.

The big attraction for business drivers wanting a car leasing deal for a stylish coupe being produced in limited numbers, is the Polestar 1's low Benefit in Kind (BiK) rate. The performance is more powerful than a Porsche 911 Carrera, and also the Aston Martin Vantage, though the Tesla line-up is also a fair comparison. If you are interested in an all-electric Polestar, then the Polestar 2 is worth looking at.

The car comes with a variety of driving modes, with the accelerator and handling being sharpened up nicely when necessary, and there's accurate steering to deliver good feedback. The handling is always assured, even on winding country roads and the car is easy to drive in heavy traffic. The smooth-changing automatic gearbox helps to deliver the excellent levels of performance, and when driven in all-electric guise, the car is silent and very comfortable.

Polestar 1 Equipment

Standard equipment includes a central portrait infotainment system, a digital instrument display as well as a three-spoke steering wheel. The panoramic glass roof creates a spacious interior, and the frameless doors impress.

It's also worth noting that this carbon-fibre bodied high-performance coupe is only available in left-hand drive. For most drivers, this will not be a problem, but it may be an issue for some.

Essentially, as a plug-in hybrid car, the Polestar 1 is an excellent offering for the segment. There is a nice blend of classic good looks, electric technology as well as the thrilling performance levels. Make no mistake, the Polestar 1 is a sound choice for those who want something different to drive - this car will turn heads - and enjoy cracking fuel economy figures.
