For great performance around town, few can match the abilities or the frugal performance of the impressive iOn. It's actually the sister vehicle to the Citroen C-Zero and made in the same factory as the Mitsubishi i-MiEV but it's very different. While it's expensive to buy, the iOn is a fast and comfortable car to commute and travel in and has an electronic stability control to reassure drivers.
Peugeot says that the vehicle will cover 95 miles on a full charge, which will cost owners around £2 – the equivalent cost for those with petrol engine cars would have to pay £10 for the same distance. The iOn is easy to charge at home and there are increasing numbers of charging points, including at Peugeot dealerships, when drivers are out and about. The main attraction for using a charging point is that the battery can get an 80% charge in just half an hour. In addition to being cheap to run, the other benefits to running an electric car include not having to pay road tax, no petrol bills and no London Congestion Charge. Also, some towns and cities have free parking for electric vehicles.
The iOn has an eight year warranty though the car feels as if it is well built and interior is very comfortable. Some critics may believe that having an electric car means having to give up fast acceleration from a standing start but that's not the case with the iOn which is a nippy and agile performer. The engine can be heard at high speeds though. At all other speeds, the engine is very quiet, which also means that pedestrians will not hear you coming, and there's plenty of room for tall adults on board, though very tall passengers may feel squeezed in the rear seats. This is a high spec car with an impressively spacious interior which has been designed to impress and growing numbers of people are being increasingly attracted to owning and driving electric vehicles.
