PEUGEOT 2008 REVIEW

The Peugeot 2008 is a practical small SUV that's a sound choice for families. It has a great interior with lots of equipment and is cheap to run.

The Peugeot 2008 offers both petrol and diesel choices. There's also an impressive all-electric offering with the e-2008. The petrol consists of a turbocharged 1.2 litre engine which is frugal and is helped with a stop/start system. There's just one diesel engine on offer, a 1.5 litre BlueHDi unit which is a better choice for those who rack up lots of miles. Fuel economy for the petrol engine is around 51 mpg, while the diesel unit should return 63 mpg. The all-electric Peugeot e-2008 has a 206 mile range and rapid charging to boost its attractive qualities.

A crossover with great equipment

The Peugeot 2008 is a striking small SUV and is a good crossover choice for those with a family wanting a stylish and well-made car. It's been a popular choice and this is the second generation that has been launched for 2020 with lots of new equipment and a bold design. It's up against some very strong rivals but it's certainly worth shortlisting since it's not only fun to drive but cheap to run as well. There's a new iCockpit that has a compact steering wheel that takes some getting used to. There's also a configurable 3-D instrument display and two choices of colour touchscreen for the infotainment system. There are also eight 'mood lighting' colours for the cabin and smartphone connectivity. Safety equipment includes speed limit recognition, lane keeping technology, driver attention warning and programmable cruise control. Standard equipment includes air conditioning and alloy wheels with other models having a panoramic glass roof, parking sensors, climate control and part leather seats. The GT trim is the range topper and features adaptive cruise control, twin-tail exhaust tailpipes and extra safety features, though it costs a lot more. The 2008 is comfortable to drive around town with light steering and the suspension deals with potholes effectively - it's also comfortable at fast speeds on motorways. The 2008 also delivers plenty of grip on winding country roads for those who want to push this crossover to the limits. The cabin has been well-designed with extensive use of soft-touch materials and for those who opt for the e-2008 then there's an app to help you pre-warm the cabin and start the motor. Essentially, the Peugeot 2008 delivers an excellent driving experience and is a sound choice for families with an interior that puts many of its rivals to shame with its premium offering, but this is a car designed for a competitive sector and it's definitely worth shortlisting.
