MITSUBISHI SHOGUN SPORT REVIEW

Excellent SUV for off-roading Tough build quality impresses The Mitsubishi Shogun Sport is an excellent SUV for those wanting an off-roading car. There is a tough build quality that impresses and a long list of standard equipment to boost its attraction.

Engines and performance for the Mitsubishi Shogun Sport

The Mitsubishi Shogun Sport is powered by a 2.4 litre turbodiesel engine producing 181 bhp and impressive torque of 430Nm. It's an excellent choice for towing and the torque along with the car maker's 'super select' 4x4 system - and the smooth changing eight-speed automatic transmission - will help drivers get out of the stickiest of situations. The Shogun Sport should return around 34 mpg with emissions of 222g/km.

Equipment and handling

What helps set the excellent Mitsubishi Shogun Sport apart from its rivals is that it has real off-roading credentials. While many rivals will lay claim to having off-roading abilities, Mitsubishi has a long and established heritage in delivering tough off-roading cars and this is one of them. The Shogun Sport has two-wheel drive for day-to-day purposes and on tarmac it's a pleasant car to drive and a smooth motorway cruiser too. Switching to four-wheel drive will bring extra stability should driving conditions become slippery or the driver needs to tow a trailer, for example. Standard features include trailer start assist, hill descent control, hill start assist and there is also a dedicated off-road mode to select. There is plenty of space on board for seven people and it's a practical offering with the rear seats folding flat to offer 1,488 litres of space. The cabin has been designed to be practical and durable and most of the fittings come from the Mitsubishi L200 pickup so the entire offering has been built last with hard wearing plastics. To help the Mitsubishi Shogun Sport compete in a competitive segment, the long equipment list includes leather upholstery, dual zone climate control, electrically adjustable front seats and a reversing camera with rear parking sensors. There are also automatic wipers and headlamps, privacy glass and keyless entry. The Shogun Sport 4, the flagship model, has heated front seats, an improved sound system, camera-driven safety kit, headlamp washers and adaptive cruise control. Essentially, the Mitsubishi Shogun Sport is an excellent choice for those who want a tough seven-seater SUV with proper off-roading credentials and is an easy car to live with.
