The Mitsubishi Shogun is a tough SUV with excellent off-roading abilities and a reputation to prove it. There's also lots of space on board too in what is a reliable car.
There's only one choice of engine and that's a 3.2 litre diesel which produces 197bhp which means it’s very powerful, though it manages to return around 35mpg and emit 213g/km of CO2. The engine will power the Shogun from 0 to 62 mph in 11 seconds. The four-cylinder engine is coupled to a choice of either manual or automatic gearbox.
The Shogun is a giant of a vehicle in the 4x4 world and is renowned for being virtually unstoppable once it goes off-road so this vehicle is a great choice for anyone who needs to do so on a regular basis. The Shogun is also dependable and rugged and will take a lot of punishment without letting anyone down. It has also been around for a long time and while some of its competitors have moved upmarket to be a more luxurious choice, there is still a role for a car like this.
In addition to the spacious interior, the rear seats will fold flat to create a huge boot of 1,120litres, which is equal in size with a small van. Opt for the long wheelbase version and the space will be 1,789litres. There's also a combination of five or seven seats and, like most cars, the rear row are a tight squeeze for adults. The Shogun is undoubtedly great performer off-road and drivers are helped with the addition safety equipment such as electronic stability control, electronic brake force distribution, traction control and airbags. Other standard equipment includes climate and cruise controls, alloy wheels and some models have a rear view parking camera and satnav.
It may not be as refined as its competitors, but the Shogun is a great performer off-road with go anywhere abilities and a soft suspension that makes such journeys comfortable. On tarmac, the soft suspension means that the ride can feel bouncy at times on rough roads but there's lots of space on board and lots of room for the passengers. Indeed, the interior is functional and practical rather than being stylish and luxurious but this is what the owners of the Shogun are wanting. The cabin will take as much punishment as the car itself will and that is a huge bonus for many owners.
