Overview of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross

Engines and performance for the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross

Under the bonnet, there's a new 1.5 litre petrol engine producing 163hp and torque of 250Nm. The engine is mated to either a six-speed manual box or a new automatic transmission with paddle shifters and manual override, depending on model. The engine should return around 45 mpg in both manual and automatic transmission guises.

Equipment and handling

Despite being a small SUV, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is a spacious offering that may prove attractive to families wanting a practical and well-equipped car. The SUV is available as either a two- or four-wheel drive vehicle with a control system offering three modes to deliver grip on slippery surfaces. Entry-level models feature a rear view camera, smartphone connectivity, a touchpad controller and cruise control. There's also climate control air conditioning, Bluetooth connectivity, privacy glass and alloy wheels. Behind the wheel, the designers have created a driver-focussed cockpit and it's a nice and comfortable car to drive around town and particularly comfortable over long motorway journeys. There is also a lot of safety equipment on board with all versions offering forward collision mitigation that uses radar to detect the potential of a collision, lane departure warning, active stability control and ABS. There are also rain and dusk sensors, brake assist and automatic headlight dipping. Other models feature an electronic handbrake, electrically folding door mirrors, as well as front and rear parking sensors, which some may find useful. The flagship offering delivers a leather trim, an electric panoramic sunroof, a top end sound system and a 360° parking camera. The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross offers lots of equipment, certainly more than many of its nearest rivals, in an excellent package that is a practical and hard-wearing choice for families on the move.
