Overview of the Mitsubishi ASX

Engines and performance for the Mitsubishi ASX

There's just one engine for the Mitsubishi ASX and it's a newly developed 2.0 litre petrol unit producing 150hp with torque of 195Nm. The five-speed manual delivers power to the front wheels whereas the CVT automatic transmission option delivers power to the four-wheel drive version. The automatic gearbox has six-speeds with paddle shifters on the steering wheel. The gear changing is smooth and it is a good performer at low revs.

Equipment and handling

Revamped for 2020, the Mitsubishi ASX features a more powerful engine and fresh bodywork styling along with a refreshed interior. Since it is competing in a competitive segment, owners will enjoy lots of equipment including alloy wheels, seven airbags as well as traction control and active stability control. There are also heated front seats, cruise control, privacy glass and smartphone connectivity and a rear view camera to help with reversing and parking. The alternative trim comes with a choice of automatic transmission, a leather interior and satnav fitted as standard. This trim also has an excellent panoramic glass roof with roof rails, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert and blind spot warning. Behind the wheel, the raised height of the driver's seat gives a good view of the road ahead and it's a nimble car to drive around town. The chassis and stability systems really come into their own on winding country roads with good grip and a lack of body roll and the ASX is also an impressive motorway cruiser. There's no doubt that the previous model was looking and feeling its age with newer rivals offering more, but the revamp really has upped the Mitsubishi ASX's game. The interior has been thoroughly improved with a new 8-inch screen for the infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity and DAB radio. The designers have improved the ambience of the cabin with new leather trim and fabrics and various touches designed to impress. Essentially, the Mitsubishi ASX is the firm's third bestselling car in the UK, and also around the world, and the overhaul for the new model makes it worth shortlisting when compared with its rivals and it has a lot to offer.
