Mini describes its Paceman as a sports activity vehicle and it sits between the Mini that we all know and love and the Countryman SUV. However, the Paceman is not only a stylish alternative to the Mini but it's also more practical with a powerful range of impressive engines to power it along. It's only available in the three door style but its unique styling helps it stand out from the crowd and, unusually for a car of this size, there's plenty of room in the back. Even if there are only two full-size seats in the rear for passengers.
Amazingly, the Paceman is also available as an all-wheel drive on the Cooper D, Cooper S and Cooper SD and there's even a Paceman John Cooper Works to choose from which will reach 0 to 62 mph in 6.9 seconds. It is an economical car to run, the Cooper D will return 64mpg and has 115g/km of CO2 emissions while the Cooper S, with its 1.6 litre petrol engine, will return 46mpg and has emissions of 143g/km. Perhaps the choice of the line-up is the Cooper SD which will return 58mpg and reach 0 to 62 mph in 9.2 seconds.
Don't be fooled into thinking that the Paceman is simply a special edition of the Mini because it isn’t. For a start, the front sports seats are much higher than usual and offer a better position for visibility and there's more room on board. There's plenty of space in the back for tall adults too. It should be noted that the rear seats are properly sculpted individual ones that are extremely comfortable and will be very popular with children who get a seat of their own in the car. As you would expect, the boot isn't particularly large but with a rear seats folded flat, there is 1,080 litres of space available. The Paceman is a very well put together and feels solid and reliable and its soft suspension smooths out rough roads to bring a comfortable and reassuring drive.
