Engines and performance for the Mazda6
The Mazda6 has a choice of four engines: there is a 2.0 litre petrol unit producing 165 PS and is mated to a six-speed manual box to return 43 mpg. The other alternatives are all diesels with the 2.2 litre SkyActive units producing either 150 PS or 184 PS and these are mated to either a six-speed manual box or a six-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy ranges from 48 mpg to 57 mpg.
Equipment and handling
This latest version of the impressive Mazda6 was unveiled in 2018 and it features lots of equipment. The car was restyled externally and technology levels were boosted but the cabin was also impressively upgraded. There are four trim levels with the entry level model offering a long list of standard kit including rear privacy glass, city brake support and an automatic dimming rear view mirror. Other models come with a black leather trim, heated front seats and steering wheel and a reversing camera. The top model is the Mazda6 GT Sport Nav+ which has a 360° view monitor, front seat ventilation, a 7-inch TFT colour driver display and rear smart city brake support. Behind the wheel, the Mazda6 feels well planted and the steering is precise and it offers a decent amount of fun. It's an agile performer around town and also an excellent motorway cruiser with a very quiet cabin to enjoy. On winding country roads, the Mazda6 is surprisingly nimble with a lot of grip to deal with corners at speed. The parking sensors help with parking and the 360° view monitor delivers confidence in tighter parking spots. The revamp saw the cabin being overhauled so there is extensive use of soft touch materials and it really does deliver a premium looking space to spend time in. Essentially, the Mazda6 has always been a sound alternative to its better known saloon rivals, but there's a lot to like about this refreshed model and for those wanting lots of equipment and excellent levels of performance, then it's certainly is worth shortlisting.
