This is a Maserati as people imagine them to be - head-turning looks and great performance in a car that loves to be driven. The GranCabrio has elegance and poise with the looks and finish that come with more expensive cars. The engine sounds incredible and it's capable of not only accelerating strongly - it's 4.7 litre V8 petrol engine, which was designed by Ferrari, will reach from 0 to 62 mph in 5.4 seconds.
There may only be one engine to choose from but it produces an incredible 434bhp in the base and sport models with 454bhp in the MC version. This means that the fuel economy is nothing to write home about; it's around 15 mpg on the combined fuel cycle. Owners should be aware that they probably will not reach that figure which means that the GranCabrio is an expensive car to drive. It doesn't help that the CO2 emissions of 337g/km will also lead to a big road tax bill. At speed, the exhaust is noisy but sounds very impressive and with the roof up the car has a quiet interior. Though with the roof down the already small boot becomes minute to accommodate it.
Handling also impresses since the car feels lighter and more agile than it should really be and safety kit includes a variety of electronic gadgets and airbags. Despite its size and weight, the steering is weighted nicely and the GranCabrio has little in the way of body roll when taking corners speed. Unlike many top end sports cars, the GranCabrio is a comfortable car to drive over long distances close to its comfort and refinements. On board, there are lots of nice design cues and the car manages to look more expensive than it really is. Much of the interior looks like it's been handmade though some of the controls and switchgear are of poorer quality.
