Engines and performance for the Kia Stonic

The engine line-up for the Kia Stonic offers three efficient units, including a turbocharged 1.0 litre petrol unit producing 118 bhp plus a 1.4 litre unit producing 98 bhp. There's also a 1.6 litre turbocharged diesel engine producing 108 bhp. All of the engines are mated to a six-speed manual gearbox with the 1.0 litre unit returning 57 mpg, the 1.4 litre unit returns 52 mpg while the diesel engine delivers an impressive 67 mpg.

Equipment and handling

The Kia Stonic is based on the firm's Rio and has a similar suspension system setup. The front-wheel drive cars have a higher ground clearance and deliver a fun driving experience. Designed for European roads, the Stonic delivers good grip on twisting country roads and it's a comfortable performer at high motorway speeds too. Around town, it's an agile performer with the raised driver's seat offering a good view of the road ahead. One of the big attractions for this compact SUV is the impressive list of equipment and the cabin has been well-designed and made with quality materials. Standard kit includes electronic stability control, hill start assist and autonomous emergency braking. There's also a 7-inch touchscreen display, featuring DAB radio and some models have satnav fitted as standard. There's also smartphone connectivity, 17-inch alloy wheels, electric windows and air conditioning. All models also get rear parking sensors, roof rails, remote locking, automatic headlight control and body coloured bumpers. Essentially, the Kia Stonic offers a relaxing and comfortable vehicle for drivers and families to enjoy with a funky design and long list of equipment to boost its attractive qualities.
