Engines and performance for the Kia Stinger
The Kia Stinger comes with a choice of three engines; a powerful 3.3 litre twin-turbocharged V6, along with a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol unit and a 2.2 litre turbocharged diesel engine - which the firm says is the most popular choice. The unit produces 200 PS and will sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just over eight seconds. The most powerful unit will do the same sprint in just five seconds and is the fastest accelerating Kia ever produced. All engines are mated to the firm's second-generation eight-speed automatic transmission to deliver quick shifting and boost fuel economy - which is 45 mpg for the smaller petrol unit and 52 mpg for the diesel engine. The V6 returns around 30 mpg.
Equipment and handling
The Kia Stinger is a viable alternative to some of the better-known four-door family coupes and there's a lot of fun to be had behind the wheel. The grip is surefooted and the engines deliver the response that some drivers will be looking for. It's a comfortable car for a long journey and the chassis and suspension deal effectively with winding country roads and potholes. Of the engines, the 2.0 litre petrol unit delivers a smooth performance around town, the diesel engine is great for long motorway journeys while the 3.3 litre V6 delivers a seriously fast and enjoyable car to drive. To help boost its attractive qualities, the Stinger is packed with a lot of standard equipment with the entry level trim offering just about anything drivers are looking for. Among the features is an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen featuring satnav and wireless phone charging. There's also head-up display so the driver can see vital information being reflected onto the windscreen, including satnav guidance, cruise control and the vehicle's speed. The interior has been well designed and there's extensive use of premium materials to make this an attractive family car for regular use. Essentially, the Kia Stinger offers families a coupe with serious levels of performance, an impressive list of equipment and excellent levels of comfort - it's up against better-known rivals but it is worth shortlisting.
