Engines and performance for the Kia ProCeed

There are three engines to choose from and all are highly efficient turbocharged units. The 1.4 litre turbocharged petrol engine produces 138 bhp and there's a 1.6 litre diesel choice with lower emissions. The engines are mated to either a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission or a six-speed manual box. There's also a 1.4 litre turbocharged engine available for the ProCeed GT-Line S and this has the automatic transmission fitted as standard. The petrol engines return around 46 mpg, while the diesel the economy is closer to 60 mpg.

Equipment and handling

Launched in 2019, the Kia ProCeed replaced the strangely named pro_cee'd and it's a lot better for it. The second generation has a five-door estate body which offers versatility and space. It's been designed and engineered in Europe for driving on European roads and so it's a comfortable car offering a responsive drive around town but it's also a relaxing car for long motorway journeys. It's also an agile performer on winding country roads with the stiff suspension dealing with body roll effectively and the car grips well to bring confidence and enjoyment. The interior has been well-designed with high quality soft touch surfaces and the horizontal dashboard layout and metallic trim give it a premium look. All ProCeeds feature an 8-inch 'floating' infotainment touchscreen, which is angled towards the driver for ease of use. Depending on the model, the ProCeed offers different front seats, ranging from cloth to leather upholstery. All of the seats offer comfort and are easily adjustable. There's also more luggage capacity when compared with rival family estate vehicles with 594 litres that's easy to load. Standard equipment includes Bluetooth smartphone integration, rain sensing wipers, automatic headlights and a smart entry system. There's also a reversing camera and rear parking sensors along with a front wiper de-icer. Other models come with wireless smartphone charging, heated outer rear seats and an electric sunroof. Along with six airbags, the ProCeed features various active safety systems including driver attention warning, forward collision avoidance assist and lane keeping assist. Some models also come with the firm's smart park assist system, so it's easy to park automatically in a parallel scenario. Essentially, the Kia ProCeed offers an excellent estate that has style and practicality but it's also a great car to drive, particularly over long distances.
