Engines and performance for the Kia e-Niro
The Kia e-Niro has a 64 kW electric motor with the power being delivered as soon as the accelerator is depressed. It's a near-silent cabin to enjoy and switching to Sport mode delivers a more impressive performance. The official real-world driving range for the all-electric car is 282 miles and drivers can recharge the battery from 0 to 80% in just 75 minutes with a fast 50 kW charger. Otherwise, drivers face waiting 10 hours when charging at home.
Equipment and handling
With all-electric cars growing in popularity, the Kia e-Niro is an excellent choice and offers more practicality than many of its rivals. It's also a tad more expensive, but the cabin is made from premium materials and from the driver's seat, it looks more expensive than it actually is. The car went on sale in early 2019 and along with a decent-sized boot, there is a lot of space on board with the batteries being placed under the floor and the seats are very comfortable. There's a lot of fun to be had behind the wheel and without a transmission or gearbox, the electric motor is a responsive creation. It will sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 7.5 seconds with a top speed of 102 mph. The three driving modes are normal, eco and sport and these deliver the rewarding drive to suit the driver's circumstances. The best range is met by keeping the car in eco mode and when switched to 'sport' the range diminishes but the performance improves. The Kia e-Niro is not only a practical choice, it's also one of the most stylish compact SUVs available and a sound offering for families. The 8-inch touchscreen for the infotainment is excellent and features satnav and there's a premium sound system and reversing camera too. Essentially, for those wanting an all-electric SUV, the Kia e-Niro offers a well-made car that is easy to live with on a daily basis.
