Overview of the Kia Ceed

Engines and performance for the Kia Ceed

The Kia Ceed comes with a choice of three petrol engines including a 1.0 litre unit producing 120 PS and 1.4 litre unit producing 100 PS. There's also a more powerful 1.4 litre 16V petrol unit producing 140 PS. The diesels consist of a 1.6 litre engine producing either 115 PS or 136 PS and both units deliver turbocharged economy of around 70 mpg, while the petrol units return around 50 mpg. There's a choice of a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Equipment and handling

The third generation of the Kia Ceed was unveiled in 2018 with a fresh exterior and a revamped interior to enjoy. Along with various technologies to boost convenience and safety, Kia also introduced Level II autonomous driving with its lane following assist technology which detects road markings to help keep the car in its lane while tracking the vehicles in front. Also, the name changed from Cee'd and the car has been designed and built in Europe to meet the needs of European customers. The hatchback has been an incredibly popular choice and around 1.3 million units have been sold and as an affordable family car, it meets just about every need. Out on the road, the Kia Ceed is easy to drive and has a well-planted feel thanks to the chassis and suspension that also deals well with potholes and winding country roads. The car is a comfortable performer on motorways at speed and there's enough technology on board to make it an interesting option in a competitive segment. The equipment list includes driver attention warning, forward collision avoidance system and high beam assist. The interior has been well-designed with premium quality materials being used and it is an environment that will withstand regular family use. It's also a spacious cabin with a floating touchscreen entertainment system with the lower part controlling the car's heating, ventilation and audio offerings. The boot is also larger at 395 litres and Kia has lowered the boot lip so it is easier to load. Essentially, the Kia Ceed has grown in popularity with UK drivers because it's a comfortable car that ticks a lot of boxes and it's a reliable and cheap-to-run vehicle that impresses.
